Before creating my mood boards I decided to do a mind map to help me brainstorm objects, characters and settings from the books. This was really helpful for my mood boards because I already knew exactly what to put in them. I also did some quick sketches for all of the objects and most of the characters and settings to help me when designing.
This is an overall view of the mind map:

Alice in Wonderland Research
Once I chose my book I did some research to find some of it's existing cover, the first publisher and date and publisher logo plus the ISBN number and a barcode for one of the editions.
Initial Book Research
These are the three books that I researched for my redesign, I ended up choosing 'Alice in Wonderland'.
I chose 'Alice in Wonderland' because I know the story well and there are endless possibilities with the designs because the book is full of objects that are easily recognisable with the book. The other books would have limited my ideas a bit more because they don't have many objects that you would immediately associate with them.

Typographic Book Cover Research
I found 12 examples of typographic book covers that I liked and annotated them with my thoughts. This was really helpful because through this I found which style of book covers I liked and thought were most effective and colour schemes and typography that worked well. From doing this I found that script fonts worked well with decorative backgrounds which influenced my final design and also the use of negative space which I also used in my final design. I also found that contrasting bright colours with white is a really effective way to get a title or shape to stand out and I also did this in my final design with the white keyhole and black font to contrast against it.
